Why are militant atheists are so diametrically opposed to religion? It’s one thing to be agnostic or to not believe in God but many modern day atheists hate the idea of God and they really hate religion and really, really hate Christians in particular. Okay so you don’t believe in God, good for you. Why do you need to ridicule and insult the people that do?

In Colorado, a new ‘art’ exhibit has opened featuring one ‘masterpiece’ that depicts the Christian messiah Jesus Christ receiving oral sex from another man. And the Vatican thought the Da Vinci Code was bad! This isn’t the first time a sociopathic atheistic artist has desecrated symbols of Christianity. Who could forget the ‘oh so brilliant’ cross in a jar of urine exhibit or the cow dung on canvas portrayal of the Virgin Mary?

These little perverts are quick to mock Christ and Christianity but how come they never try this with Islam? Unlike Christians, Muslims are a little less tolerant of people that would insult their religion. Why don’t they paint a picture of the Prophet Mohamed engaged in a sex act with another man and see what happens.

Imagine my surprise when we learned that Barack Obama did NOT win the Nobel Peace Prize for a second straight year. Instead, the honor was given to a convicted criminal serving time in a Chinese prison but it’s not what you think. In China freedom and democracy are against the law, in China peaceful dissent can get you locked up or worse.

This year’s Nobel winner Liu Xiaobo was sentenced to 11 years in prison for ‘subversion of state power’ because Liu has the audacity to call for freedom of speech and free elections in China. Even with all of the economic progress taking place in China, there has been little progress made ensuring human rights and personal liberty to the over one billion Chinese living under the iron fist of their totalitarian rulers.

It is nice to see the ‘international community’ stand up to the despotic communists in China. Even President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder are calling on China to release the incarcerated Nobel winner but just asking politely is not enough. Simply CALLING on the dictators of China to change will not work, it has been tried, Liu Xiaobo ‘called’ for freedom of speech and it got him 11 years in a Chinese prison.

If the world is serious about supporting human rights efforts, if we want to end oppression and ensure freedom and liberty then we must act collectively to demand that China free political prisoners like Liu. We cannot stand by as peaceful demonstrators are run over by tanks or locked away in prison cells, use must use all of our political and economic might to end the brutal tyranny in red China.

When Leon Panetta first was confirmed as Director of Central Intelligence, I questioned the wisdom of such a move by the President. After all Lean Panetta is a lawyer, politician, and a Democrat but he is not an intelligence expert. I only mention it because it might be helpful to our national security if the Director of the CIA knew what hell he was doing! Putting Panetta, with zero intelligence experience, in charge of the CIA would be like electing a President without any executive experience. Okay bad example, try this, would you eat at a restaurant if the chef had never cooked a meal in his life?

The fact that Leon Panetta is a longtime Democrat does not qualify him to run the Central Intelligence Agency. That said at least he has advisors at the Agency with many years of experience that will lead him in the right direction. So imagine my surprise when I happened to see him appear as a guest judge on Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ last night. Nothing inspires confidence in a CIA director with American people like an appearance on reality TV. Someone should tell the Director that American Idol looking for a judge as well. What’s next is Janet Napolitano going to appear on the ‘Real Housewives of DC’?

You’re the Director of Central Intelligence, not some undersecretary in the Department of Agriculture! Nobody wants to see you judging who has the best steak tartar; we want you making sure radical Muslims aren’t going to blow anything up today! Imagine if you’re an Al Qaeda member in a cave somewhere and you see Panetta’s stupid face on TV talking about the salt level in a particular dish. It’s not exactly going to instill fear in them, now is it?

Only in San Francisco could a man that had his own penis cut off in order to ‘become’ a woman be elected a federal judge. That’s right, 49 year-old Victoria Kolakowski has become the nation’s very first transgendered Superior Court Judge. Hey, different strokes for different folks, I have always maintained that private lives are private but that fact that JUDGE Kolakowski WAS a man and now IS a woman is too much for me to ignore.

Who in their right mind decides that it would be a good idea to give themselves ‘the chop’? I mean, you can’t be playing with a full deck if you willingly have elective surgery to remove your own genitals. I think most rational people look at this as ’odd behavior’ at the very least. NOT the lunatic leftists from San Francisco, they (of course) look at it as a qualification for holding public office.

Perhaps if Kolakowski was elected San Francisco County dog catcher, ‘her’ transgendered status would not be so much of an issue for me. But the fact of the matter is, Kolakowski is going to have the fate of a great number of people resting on her broad shoulders. When plaintiffs or defendants enter a court room they expect a person on the bench whose judgment is sound and whose decision making ability is unquestioned, they don’t expect to get Tim Curry from ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ presiding over their case.

Last year, authorities in the UK released the bomber of Pan Am flight 103 from prison on ‘compassionate’ grounds. Doctors said that Abdel Baset al-Megrahi had terminal cancer and he only had weeks to live. The British government took pity on the convicted terrorist, they decided to show compassion to a man that showed none to the 270 people that died aboard flight 103.

Now nine months later al-Megrahi is alive and well living in his native Libya. Apparently his cancer wasn’t as bad as the doctors thought, it’s now said that al-Megrahi may have to wait another ten years to meet Allah and the 72 Virgins. How could this happen? Who thought it would be a good idea to free a man that killed hundreds of innocent people? It’s not as if he knocked off a liquor store! I don’t care how sick he was, no compassion for terrorists that murder hundreds of people! And if you are going to do it at least make sure the guy is actually going to die.

Not only is this guy still alive he is a national hero back in Libya, there killing innocent Americans and westerners gets you the royal treatment. I don’t know about the Brits but if I were in charge Mr. al-Megrahi would have a JDAM or Tomahawk missile paying him a visit soon.

I don’t care if you do not believe in God; we live in a free country that allows non-believers to go on not believing or whatever it is they do. Just do so at your own peril. That is not a threat; I just don’t think you would want to walk up to the pearly gates after you die and have to explain to St Peter why you don’t believe in God.

If atheists are prepared to take that risk, fine by me. It won’t be my soul condemned to eternal damnation if it turns out God is real and he is not a very forgiving God. No, seriously why do some atheists insist on ruining Christmas for the rest of us? You don’t believe in God, fine but I and billions of others on this planet do. Let us celebrate the birth of Christ in peace; it’s not as if we are hurting you. You get gifts out of the deal, just be happy about that! Every atheist I have ever known gives and receives gifts, hangs Christmas lights, and attends all of the great parties at Christmas time. So why then do they get so bend out of shape if they happen to see a Christmas tree or God forbid (sorry atheists) a nativity scene in the town square? They refuse to say Merry Christmas; they’ll say Happy Holidays instead. Happy Holidays? What holidays? You mean like Hanukkah and Christmas? Two religious holidays? Perhaps by Happy Holidays they are referring the New Year holiday, but if that were the case you would simply say happy holiday.

If you are waiting for Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security to actually do any securing of the homeland, don’t hold your breath. Instead of being on the lookout for suspicions looking Arab men with wires coming out of their pants, they continue to sexually harass the traveling public.

In a recent test of TSA checkpoints undercover investigators were able to ‘slip by’ the crotch grabbers at one airport with concealed bombs 20 out of 22 times! Who was manning the x-ray machine? Stevie Wonder? I bet if the investigators had hidden the bombs in the blouse of a large breasted former Baywatch star the TSA would have found every last one. How could the TSA expect evil doers would attempt to hide explosive in luggage?

And if you thought that was bad, screeners in Houston failed to detect a passenger with a loaded Glock 9mm pistol in his carryon luggage. The passenger was identified as FARID SEIF an IRANIAN-American! Are you kidding me? This guy gets by our ‘top notch’ security team with a loaded gun but wheel chair bound old ladies can’t get through with a bottle of hand lotion? Thankfully Farid Seif is just a businessman that somehow forgot that his computer bag contained a loaded weapon and not a Muslim terrorist bend on hijacking a commercial airliner.

The TSA is busy giving ‘groin checks’ to grade-schoolers, while Arab men are allowed on flights with loaded handguns. Instead of addressing this glaring weakness in the system, Big Sis Napolitano is moving on to address an even more insidious threat than Islamic extremists armed with firearms and explosives, Anthropogenic global warming.

A single nuclear weapon has the ability to ruin your entire day, imagine what 1,550 of them could do. President Obama and the Democrats are acting like they’re saving the world from total annihilation but the truth is the new START treaty will do nothing to actually make anyone safer. Sure it will reduce the number of nukes in our respective stockpiles but both sides will still possess 1,550 warheads each. That’s enough firepower to kill ever complex organism on the planet a few dozen times.

Personally, I’m glad we have an arsenal capable of destroying the planet. It means that nobody in their right mind would mess with us. Unfortunately, in today’s day and age there are people who possess nuclear weapons that are decidedly out of their right minds. The Russians probably would never try anything because as sneaky and crazy as they might be they know that any launch on the US will result in certain death for them. Mutually assured destruction is not ideal but it is reliable so long as we’re dealing with half way rational people. The problem is Dear Leader in North Korea and Adolf Ahmadinejad in Iran are not exactly playing with a full deck.

If the President wants to do something that will actually make people safer he should back the missile defense program. Last year President Obama abandoned a missile defense agreement that the Bush administration had negotiated with Poland and the Czech Republic because Russia objected. Russia has a problem with missile defense because our defensive missiles could shoot down their offensive nuclear missiles and obviously they don’t like that but I can’t see why liberals like President Obama aren’t more supportive of a defense system that could make nuclear weapons obsolete. I’m sorry if it ‘offends’ our dear friend in Russia but they aren’t the only ones we have to worry about. Those defensive missiles in Eastern Europe could have potentially intercepted an Iranian nuclear missile bound for the east coast or Western Europe before it reached its target but oh well, I’m sure Herr Ahmadinejad would never doing anything crazy like that.

If you listened to the White House, the impending ratification in the Senate of the new START arms control agreement is a great victory for the US and peace loving people everywhere. Unfortunately, the new START treaty will not make the world any safer from the threat of nuclear war. The good news is the Russians in all likelihood will NOT attack us with nuclear weapons but that has little to do with START and more to do with thousands of thermo-nuclear warheads we have pointed back in their direction. All START does is reduce the nuclear arsenal each side is allowed to have, both sides will still be allowed huge stockpiles of nuclear weapons, so I’m not sure what’s so great about this arrangement.

Under the current agreement both sides are allowed 2,200 nuclear warheads. Under the new agreement that number would be reduced to ONLY 1,550, which is still more than enough to exterminate every human being on the planet, many times over. So what’s the difference?

And the best part is the new START uses the ‘honor system’ to ensure each side is following the terms of the agreement. I trust the Obama administration will live up to their end of the bargain, the Russians on the other hand I’m not so sure about. Do we really expect the ex-KGB agent Vladimir Putin to keep his word? After all it was the Russians that helped the Iranians build a nuclear power plant and it was also the Russians that (just last week) shipped 1,800 anti-aircraft missiles to that fat little toad Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. But I’m sure we take them at their word. Yeah right, I would sooner trust Bernie Madoff with my life savings!

Over the weekend, whilst you were Christmas shopping, Congress (on their way out the door) passed a repeal of the military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy and liberals everywhere are ecstatic. Although, I’m not sure why. Gays were never banned from serving in the armed forces by DADT, DADT simply orders gay servicemen not to discuss their sexual practices with their fellow soldiers. What’s so hard about that? DADT actually ALLOWED gays to serve for the first time, let’s stop comparing this to the emancipation proclamation.

I will always have the utmost respect for anyone (gay, straight, or otherwise oriented) willing to fight and die for their country. What you do in the bedroom or (more to the point) who you do it to, is of no consequence to me. So why must a person serve ‘openly’? What does this achieve? We know the anti-military left is all for this. And we know that gay activists have demanded this for years but what about all of those closeted gay soldiers? Do they really feel the need to tell their platoon or their commanding officer what they do after dark, under the sheets?

I don’t understand, what is so controversial about private lives remaining private? The US military is not a hair salon, servicemen typically tend to be very masculine, they don’t often ‘open up’ to their fellow soldiers about their ‘feelings’. I highly doubt there will be a long line of gay soldiers willing to ‘open up’ to their platoon about their homosexual lifestyle.

The Iranian Hitler along with our good friends the Russians brought Iran’s first nuclear reactor online over the weekend. What did the UN do about it? Nothing. What did the US do about it? Nothing. Even the Israelis failed to do anything to stop it. And where are all the good liberals that protest nuclear power plants in the US now that we need them? Does anyone really expect that Iran just wants nuclear power? Please! They're in oil up to their eyeballs over there, they don’t want nuclear power they want to BE a nuclear power.

I would have expected the UN to issue a ‘strongly worded’ condemnation but so far there is no word from them. Oh well I guess we’ll all just have to HOPE that Iran is not going to unleash the power of the atom upon the west, right Mr President? After all it’s not like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ever threatened to destroy us or anything. It is great that President Obama is all for nuclear arms reduction but we seem to be the only one doing it.

The White House even assured Israel that Iran poses no threat to them. Meanwhile Iran continues testing of a new long range surface to surface missile as well as an unmanned bomber which is affectionately called ‘the ambassador of death’ by Ahmadinejad. But no need for the Israelis to worry? Yeah right, just like Hitler and the Nazis posed no threat the Jews. To quote a certain former President ‘fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice…you can’t get fooled again’. This guy cannot be trusted (Ahmadinejad I mean) I’d trust Osama bin Laden with a nuclear bomb before I’d trust this madman. Ahmadinejad has said in the past that he would destroy Israel and I believe him and the Israelis should too, even if President Obama doesn’t.

Last month voters voted overwhelmingly to remove Democrats from power in Washington but in the little time they have left, the lame duck leftists in Congress are rapidly moving ahead with every piece of left wing legislation they can find. Seemingly the only thing they’re not in a hurry to pass is an extension of the Bush era tax cuts.

The economy is still circling the drain; unemployment is still in double-digits and the lame duck liberals are still willing to raise tax rates on people of all incomes. As if it is the taxpayers fault the nation is over $13 trillion in debt. The Dems say extending the current tax rates for another two years is ‘fiscally irresponsible’. If Democrats are so concerned about ‘fiscal responsibility’ why did they just pass another $1.1 trillion dollar omnibus spending bill?

This recently passed pork laden bill includes 6,488 earmarks totaling $8.3 billion! We can’t afford to keep lower tax rates but we can afford $500,000 for oyster safety in Florida and $400,000 for peanut research in Alabama? Peanut research? What the hell could we possibly find out about peanuts that we didn’t already know?

The taxpayers have held up their end of the bargain. Unless you happen to be Charlie Rangel or Tim Geithner, you pay a significant portion of your income to the Federal government each and every year. You have fulfilled your obligation; Congress shouldn’t be asking you to forfeit more of YOUR hard earned money to pay for THEIR $400,000 peanut study.

The liberal progressives that run San Francisco are very ‘tolerant’. They pride themselves in being ‘non-judgmental’, they support a woman’s right to an abortion on demand, they fight for a junkie’s right to receive city subsidized clean needles, they support a pot head’s right to get high, and they even support an illegal alien’s right to break the law.

The ‘San Fran-sicko’ motto is ‘if it feels good do it!’. The permissive progressives in San Francisco are very ‘accepting’ of all things illegal and immoral but when it comes to ‘happy meals’ for children, the progressives are a lot less open minded. The same people that are okay with rampant illegal drug use have a big problem with parents feeding their kids McDonalds and are voting today to ban restaurants from including toys in meals with too much sodium or too many calories.

San Francisco will give sanctuary to illegal alien gang members and at the same time they will give you the 3^rd degree over the eating habits of your 5 year old. Admittedly, chicken McNuggets and French fries are not the healthiest meal in the world but it has got to be better than mainlining heroin.

If San Francisco wants to protect kids, they should start by cleaning up the streets of San Francisco. The cities progressive attitude toward criminals, drug addicts, and child molesters are much more dangerous to children than the level of trans fat in their happy meal.

Where are all of the feminists now that we need them? Just because women have achieved equality here in the civilized world, doesn’t mean everything is hunky dory everywhere else. In many parts of the world women are still treated as second class citizens, which isn’t so bad when you consider how they are treated in countries like Sudan. Trust me, Sudanese women aren’t worried about the glass ceiling or equal pay, they’re just happy to go out in public and make it home alive.

If you’re unfamiliar, Sudan is an Islamic country in North Africa best known for murder, mayhem, civil war, slavery, and genocide. So it shouldn’t really be a shock that Sudanese ‘officials’ would savagely beat a defenseless woman in the streets for no good reason. Unless, of course, you consider wearing pants to be a good reason to lash a woman 53 times. Evidently, the ‘tough guys’ in charge in Sudan do. It’s not like she was wearing a miniskirt, this poor woman was wearing full Islamic garb from head to toe!

It’s bad enough that women in Sudan have next to no rights and are forced to wear those ridiculous Islamic cover-ups, now they have the Sudanese version of the TSA checking what they’ve got going on underneath? But what else would you expect from backward nations still stuck in the early Middle Ages? You might expect the ultra progressive women’s groups to act on behalf of these brutalized women but unfortunately they are too busy worrying about advancing ‘reproductive freedoms’ here in the US. Last I checked, abortion was still legal in the United States. You know what else is legal in the US? Going out in public wearing trousers, which is more than you can say for Sudan.

I really don’t understand the push by many on both sides of the political aisle to ‘normalize’ relations with China. They are not our friend, they are not our ally, they are an oppressive totalitarian dictatorship and an enemy to freedom loving people everywhere. We shouldn’t be making nice with the Maoist tyrants in Beijing that oppress their own people. It is true that China has a very formidable economy and an even more formidable military. I’m not calling for a trade war or (worse yet) an actual war with the communist Chinese but I don’t think we should be kissing their ass either.

The Soviet Union used to be very formidable. Did Ronald Reagan bow before Leonid Brezhnev or any other Soviet leader the way President Obama did with Chinese President Hu? I don’t think so. Did he push for free trade agreements and ‘normalized relations’ with the Soviet Union and their Despotic brethren? Of course not, he demanded change. And that’s exactly what we should be demanding of the ChiComms (and their ilk) today. We should tell them in no uncertain terms, we will not be engaging them in trade talks or importing any more of their cheap crap until they stop trampling upon the basic human rights of their citizens. If they stop buying ipads from us, well that’s just too bad. Most of the billion or so Chinese people couldn’t afford an ipad unless they won the lottery. We hear a lot of the ‘burgeoning’ middle class in China but I don’t buy it, most Chinese are stuck working 18 hours a day at a factory for pennies an hour and if they dare say anything about it their sent to prison for ‘subversion’.

Last week the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in Norway to Liu Xiaobo of China, only problem was he was unable to accept his award because the Chinese government has him locked up for being a ‘counter-revolutionary’. His wife couldn’t even attend in his place. She wanted to but the little tyrants in Beijing placed her under house arrest to keep her from going. I thought that red China was supposedly becoming a more ‘open society’. That’s all we heard about during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. They may not be running peaceful demonstrators over with tanks anymore but the Maoist, Marxist despots are still imprisoning people for wanting the basic freedoms that Americans have enjoyed for nearly 250 years.

What would we do without government protecting us? Sure they can’t prevent Jihadists with explosives in their underpants from boarding an airplane, nor can they stop a radical Muslim from infiltrating the Army. We can’t expect the government to actually prevent terror attacks but if New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg has his way, the government will prevent terrorists from legally owning guns.

I feel much safer now and while you are at it could you also ban them from blowing up stuff too? Oh and let’s also have laws against terrorists having nuclear weapons, cutting people’s heads off, and crashing airliners into buildings. “Excuse me, do you have a permit to hijack this plane? If not we’ll have to ask you to return to your seat.” I’d much rather a terrorist shoot me with a bullet that weighs half an ounce than him come after me with a 200,000 pound 757 as a guided missile.

A terrorist nearly sets off a bomb in the proximity of thousands of people in Times Square and Mayor Bloomberg is more concerned that he had a gun in his car. I am more concerned that we had a terrorist in our country! Maybe we could outlaw them. It doesn’t take Jack Bauer to figure out that this Pakistani born American citizen was up to no good; all those trips back to Pakistan to attend terrorist training camps should have been a hint. How would we ban terrorists from owning guns, if we can’t even figure out who the terrorists are? Besides terrorists don’t need guns just look what they were able to do with box cutters on 9/11. And who cares that he had a gun? He wasn’t trying to shoot anyone; he was trying to blow them up! I’m pretty sure blowing people up is already illegal, even for a non-terrorist, but that didn’t stop this guy.

Now Democrats can label Republicans racist, homophobic, and anti-military all after just one vote. The GOP managed to defeat a defense appropriations bill in the Senate that would have (in addition to funding the military) ended the Clintonian ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy AND passed the Dems illegal alien dream act. Because affording citizenship rights to illegal aliens has a lot to do with defense spending.

Shouldn’t there be a rule that Congress can’t attach amendments to bills that have nothing at all to do with the original bill? Why don’t the Dems just add cap and trade and all of their other socialistic legislative ideas to the defense spending bill? That way they could get everything done with just one vote. Just group everything together, Liberalism: yea or nay.

The defense spending bill is a vote to appropriate tax money to military programs, not a vote to institute ‘social change’. If allowing gays in the military is so important, why not vote on that? If legalizing illegal immigrants is what Democrats think is the right thing to, why not give it an up or down vote? The military is busy fighting a war in Afghanistan, finishing one in Iraq, and protecting us all from radical Islamic jihadists. The Democrats are more concerned with closeted soldiers and amnesty for illegals.

If only greedy Americans would pay more taxes, Congress wouldn’t have spent the country into near insolvency. Or at least that’s what the Democrats think. Uncle Sam takes in $2.5 trillion in taxes annually from American taxpayers, yet somehow the country is over $13 trillion in debt! How much should taxpayers pay? 40 percent? 50 percent? 90percent? How much is enough?

The left argues that the ‘rich’ can afford to pay more which may be true but surely the government could do with less. The more money the government takes from the so-called rich, the less money the ‘rich’ have to spend on creating or expanding businesses. Rich people don’t just put their money into their checking accounts, they spend it or they invest it. Although to me it doesn’t really matter how the ‘rich’ decide to spend their money because it is THEIR money to spend, or not spend, or light on fire if they want to. THEY earned that money, not the federal government.

The quasi-socialists in Congress sneer at the ‘rich’ for not wanting to pay more to support out of control government spending, they mockingly ask ‘do the rich really need ANOTHER yacht or private jet?’ Of course nobody NEEDS a G6 but the workers that build G6’s have a job because ‘obscenely’ wealthy people buy private jets. It’s not like affluent people are blowing their money on hookers and booze but even if they were, that would be good news for the hookers and the booze makers. And it would also be good news for all of the businesses supported by the hookers and the booze makers.

When people (of any income) have more money in their pocket they are more likely to eat out at restaurants, buy a new car, or take a vacation. When people are allowed to keep more of their money, more money is infused into the economy. When government takes more of people’s hard earned money it usually ends up in the black hole of government waist never to be seen or heard from again.

I understand that the anti-Semites in the Arab world believe Israelis are responsible for all that’s wrong in the universe but this is getting ridiculous. Last week a German tourist visiting Egypt was killed by a shark while swimming in the Red Sea and according to Egyptian officials ‘the Zionists’ may be behind the attack.

I’ve heard ‘the Jews’ blamed for a lot of things but never for a shark attack. Jews have been accused of ‘running’ governments, banking, business, the media, and Hollywood. Now I guess the Egyptians think ‘the Jews’ control oceanic creatures as well. As crazy as it sounds the Egyptian authorities actually think the attack may have been a plot by the Israelis to affect Egyptian tourism!

I wasn’t even aware that sharks had religious beliefs, are the Egyptians on the lookout for a 15 foot Mako wearing a yarmulke? Or do they think the evil Jews somehow used their Semitic Superpowers to convince a weak-minded shark to eat people? As if sharks need any convincing to eat people, they are sharks for crying out loud! Eating people (and everything else) is what sharks do and they’ve been doing it for many millions of years. Trust me there is nothing ‘the Jews’ (or anyone else) can do about it one way or the other.

California is the only State in the Union to offer luxury cars for all State Senators and Representatives. Coincidentally, we are also the only State with a 24 billion dollar budget deficit. You can’t blame George W Bush or the Republicans for the hole we’re in here in California; we have the Democrat controlled state legislature to thank for this mess.

They didn’t drive us into a ditch; they drove us into oncoming traffic, over a cliff and down into shark infested waters. Despite being the world’s fifth largest economy and one of the highest tax rates in the US, the Dems in Sacramento (every year) somehow spend billions more dollars than they take in. They may not be any good at balancing a budget but they sure know how to spend money.

What could they be spending all this money on, you ask? $600 million for a high school, $40 billion for a ‘subway to the sea’ that actually ends nowhere near the sea, and $60 billion (or so they say) for a high speed ‘bullet’ train connecting LA and San Francisco, $500 billion in underfunded state pensions. And then there is millions spent every year on luxury whips for lawmakers. We’re not talking about a fleet of white Dodge Neon’s Ford Escort’s here, these guys are getting REALLY nice rides complements of the taxpayers including a $52,000 Lexus and a $55,000 Cadillac. What have the politicians in Sacramento done to deserve a perk like this, other than bankrupting the state?

Not to be outdone by Big Sis and the crotch grabbers at the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation is doing their best to violate your personal freedoms and impose themselves upon you. Unlike DHS they won’t be molesting any motorists (at least not yet), instead they are busy working on a technology to disable or scramble cell phones in cars. Don’t these people have anything better to be doing? I’m quite certain that 90 percent of government bureaucrats spend their entire careers in a cubicle just thinking up new ways to infringe on our everyday lives.

I understand that talking on a phone while driving can be distracting but people have been driving distracted long before cells phones came along. Banning cell phones won’t stop people from crashing into one another on the highway but it will stop people from dialing 911 to call for help. Unless the Feds can figure out a way to stop drivers from eating, drinking, smoking, changing the radio station, adjusting the A/C, rolling up (or down) the windows, applying make-up, reading the newspaper, or shaving there will always be distracted drivers. Heck, most new cars now come with built-in DVD players! You want to talk about dangerous, I’m pretty sure enjoying the Cinema on the interstate is slightly more distracting than a cell phone call.

In most cities in America, the highways are antiquated and outdated. Much of the interstate system was built way back in the 1950’s, traffic is jammed, bridges are falling apart, and the imbeciles at the DOT are focusing on cell phones. If they REALLY want to make the roads safe they should ban all cars and replace them with those little Autopia cars from Disneyland that run on tracks. They have huge bumpers and the top speed is only about 5 miles-per-hour. It may take people 12 hours to get to work but at nobody gets hurt.

Going in, the US was the frontrunner to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It all made sense, we have the infrastructure in place, there are state-of-the art stadiums in nearly every major American city. The last time the tournament was held here it drew record crowds; the 1994 World Cup is still the most attended World Cup of all time, even though the number of teams and matches has since been raised. We even had Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama in our corner but alas it was not to be.

It turns out that US bribe errrrrrrrr Bid was not as ‘convincing’ as some of us thought. Sure we have the fans and the stadiums and the corporate sponcers and the temperate weather and the beautiful landscapes but the FIFA selection committee elected to go in another direction. The US was not the only contender to host the 2022 tournament. Australia had a strong bid. South Korea and Japan also were in the running. But at the end of the day it was Qatar that was awarded the tournament. Yes that Qatar.

What, Syria wasn’t interested? I’m sure the Qatari delegation was very ‘persuasive’ but have these FIFA officials ever been to Qatar? Do they know how to pronounce Qatar? Do they even know where it is? They expect to build 9 stadiums, host 32 international soccer teams, and millions of soccer fans in a country smaller than the state of Connecticut? Did I mention the Qatar is an ISLAMIC nation the strictly adheres to Islamic law? That ought to go over well with your average soccer hooligan. Oh and by the way high temperatures in Qatar AVERAGE 115 in the summer time. But what Qatar lacks in infrastructure, geography, size, climate, and culture they (apparently) more than make up more in oil money.

The Feds aren’t the only ones telling us how to live our lives. Today more and more local governments are getting more ‘involved’ in our everyday activities. They have rules for everything now, and I do mean everything. They say where you can build and where you can’t, they say where you can smoke and where you can’t. They say where you can park; they say how tall business signs can be. They say when businesses can open and when they must close. They even say when you can wash clothes or run the air conditioner.

Did you know, in many places, watering your lawn everyday is a crime? It doesn’t matter that YOU own the land, it doesn’t matter that YOU pay for the water, the government says homeowners can only water three times a week. You can’t even choose which three days, where I live, the city ASSIGNS residents three days when lawn watering is permitted and even then it only for 10 minutes and it has to be before 9AM or after 7PM. And you had better follow the rules or one of your nosy neighbors can rat you out anonymously to the water waster hotline.

For years, government agencies have been harassing citizens for to recycle. They make it sound as if the entire global ecosystem will cease to exist if a single aluminum soda can winds up in a landfill. In Los Angeles, the sanitation department will soon be dispatching ‘trash inspectors’ out to verify that residents are using their trash and recycle bins ‘correctly’. How many years in jail will people get if they are discovered to have ‘contaminated’ the trash? It should also be pointed out, that the city of Los Angeles DOES NOT pick up trash as a public service, residents PAY the city a good sum of money to pick up their trash and their recycling and I think they would appreciate it if the city would get off their backs and out of their trash cans. It’s still a free country, if people want to recycle, great! If not, that is their right. I am not against recycling, I recycle but I resent being browbeaten into doing it and I’m certainly not going to lose any sleep at night if I mistakenly toss a glass bottle in the garbage can instead of the recycle bin.
